Am I free to choose an out-of-school care location myself?

Your choice of primary school also determines the location for out-of-school care. Each primary school works together with one or more out-of-school care locations.

What are the options?

• Out-of-school care: Care is available after school and also during school holidays or on days when there is no school. You can choose from three different packages, to suit your situation.
• Before-school care: From 7:30 am, children are welcome to start the day at their own pace. Handy if you need to leave early in the morning. There’s time to play, relax and start the day calmly.
• Holiday care: During school holidays, there’s a special holiday programme full of fun and educational activities. We make sure children have a great time even when they don’t have school.

What out-of-school care packages are available?

There are 3 possibilities:

• Out-of-school care Total (52 weeks): Out-of-school care throughout the year with extended care credits, which you can use for an extra afternoon, during the school holidays and on non-school days.
• Out-of-school care Plus (46 weeks): Out-of-school care with limited care credits for school holidays and non-school days.
• Out-of-school care Basic (40 weeks): Out-of-school care during school term and only after-school hours.

The Out-of-school care Total package has a more favourable hourly rate. Depending on your level of childcare allowance, this is often cheaper than the Out-of-school care Plus Package. And it’s important to note that buying extra days – in addition to your package – is always more expensive.

What can the flexible care credit be used for?

The Out-of-school care Total and Plus packages include care credits for care during school holidays and on non-school days. You can also use the Out-of-school care Total credits for an extra afternoon after school. You can request this in the parent app. The care credits for the Out-of-school care Total package is usually for 132 hours per year, starting from the day the contract was signed. The Out-of-school care Plus package includes 66 hours of credits per year, starting from the day the contract was signed. You can use those 66 hours for example for 6 days of childcare during school holidays.

How is childcare organised during school holidays?

Out-of-school care is open all day during school holidays. We have a special holiday programme, with fun and educational activities. Using your care credits from the Out-of-school care Total or Plus Package, you can choose which days you want childcare. You can request these days in the parent app.

How is childcare organised on non-school days?

If there’s no school during a normal week outside of the holidays, you can bring your child to our out-of-school care. On these days, you use flexible care credits from your Out-of-school care Total or Plus package. You can request these days in the parent app.

How much is out-of-school care?

The cost differs per person. The amount you pay depends on what time primary school finishes, your choice of out-of-school care package, the number of days you need and how much you receive in childcare allowance.

What are the opening hours?

Opening hours vary per out-of-school care centre, and are aligned with the time your child’s primary school finishes. Generally, the following times apply:​

• On school days: After school hours until 18:30.​
• During holidays and on non-school days: From 7:30 until 18:30
At EigenWijs, this is from 8:00 until 18:00.

Is out-of-school care closed on certain days?

Out-of-school care is open on workdays, excluding national holidays. Once a year, the childcare centres with a school (integral kindcentrum) have a joint study day with their school.
